As biopics go, I thought Walk the Line was pretty great. Everything except for the final scene, which was some serious movie-of-the-week material. Otherwise, awesome.

I agree. It was a great movie. I actually saw it twice opening weekend. Having read both of his books they seemed to have left a few important things out that kept him on the drugs. Like Luther dying in a fire (don't remember if it was a house fire or car fire) and his best friend Roy Orbison who lived next door to him, losing his children in a house fire. I believe they both happened before him and June were married. From what I've read, those two events really affected him. Also, in the movie he was in Vegas when he kicked the stage lights out, maybe he did that there too but they should have showed him doing that at the Grand Ol Opry since that was a well know incident of his. All in all it was a great movie and shot well.
Plus the movie poster is just greatness, done by what's-his-name who did the Obey Giant stuff...

and yes, i agree that it was a pretty solid movie. all the oscar buzz is well deserved.
but what's up with the portayal of his first wife? without even knowing that there was some controversy about it, i was immediately struck by how negatively that character was treated. is this just a reflection of how he addresses her in his books, or was this simply to make june more appealing to audiences as a character?
and hi bobby...hope you're well!

From what I've heard, the family is upset about her portrayal. I read that she was much more supportive of his career, but things went south when he got into the pills and groupies.
Thanks Ave :)
